Elect Jesus King?

Driving along a main residential thoroughfare in our town, I noticed a sign posted on a lawn that resembled a political campaign ad stating in bold letters "Elect Jesus King." I chuckled and smiled at the gutsy sign owner's sense of humour; the concept of a king implies submission to authority and unchallenging obedience. North Americans are not generally predisposed to this sort of surrender, and I wonder what sort of responses he has gotten for his sign.
Yet, as I drove past, I realized that the sign accurately encapsulated the average Christian's views on Christ's lordship. To elect is to make a choice or selection, and many view the lordship of Christ is as an optional "extra" for the Christian life, like the special features offered in addition to a "basic" cell phone plan.

Is salvation the "basic" plan and "lordship" the bonus feature added for an extra cost?

In listening to testimonies, I have often heard referenced by believers a time when "they made Jesus the Lord of their life", as an event distinct and separate from the time they believed on Him as their Saviour. In fact, I have used those exact words myself to describe the event of decided surrender that occurred in my life at the age of seventeen.

Indeed, when you gave your life to Christ, it was simply by grace through faith. You did nothing to receive forgiveness except to believe in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Salvation IS a free gift that cannot be earned through obedience to Jesus, but is offered to all through simple, humble faith in the Lord Jesus our Saviour.

But take note: the day you believed, Jesus became both your Saviour AND your Lord

Romans 10:9, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Yes! The moment you received Jesus as your Saviour, He became your Lord as well. You cannot elect Jesus Lord; He already holds that position in the life of every Christian
The lordship of Christ is not an extra you can add on to the basic "plan" of salvation, nor is it a requirement of salvation, as some of those in the "lordship salvationist" camp would purport.  The Bible is clear that simple trust in Jesus is all that is necessary for salvation, and that in so doing, Jesus becomes the Lord of our life.
Unfortunately, many believers never experience the wonderful reality of His leading and authority in their daily life, as their Lord, for one reason:

Surrender.

To surrender is to relinquish, to let go, to give up. When we practically surrender to Jesus’ lordship, we are essentially “allowing” Jesus to do what He has desired to do in our lives from the very beginning.
Our life as a Christian is rather like a sponge submersed in a bucket of water, but held tightly in our fist. We are technically “in Him,” but experientially, we are as dry as we were before entering the bucket of water. However, when we relinquish the control of our lives into the hands our Lord and Saviour Jesus, we become like that sponge released that it might be filled with water.
To the degree that you surrender to His lordship in your life, to the same degree you will experience His hand of blessing and guidance upon your life. The more you yield your life to Christ, the greater His power will be present in you to live the Christian life.

Jesus desires that you give up your life to Him that He might live out His life in you.

Paul spoke of this “exchanged” life in his letter to the church in Galatia. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

If you have trusted in Jesus as your Saviour, He is your Lord.  Have you surrendered to Him? Are you ready to let Him lead you into all that He has planned for you?

Oswald Chambers wrote, “The only right a Christian has is the right to give up his rights.”

  1. Elect Jesus King- WHAT? Elect Jesus King??? Kings don’t get elected but are born heirs to the throne!!! But this is western or “Greek” thinking If we look at the name Melchizedek it means “king of righteousness” consisting of two words, “Melek”-King , “Zedek”-Righteousness. We see the original Hebrew word transliterated as “Melek”, translated as ”King”, but these words are not synonyms, a “Melek”, unlike a “King” only has voluntary subjects. There is no “Melek”(King) without a people who declare “Long live the Melek” voluntarily declaring and accepting his yolk of kingship (really “melekship”). The verbal exuberant declaration by voluntary subjects is what creates the Melek’s kingship thru active acceptance of his rule. God began his kingship when Adam opened his eyes and said “The LORD is king forever and ever” with no Adam (without subjects) there is no kingdom, this is how we create the kingship of Jesus/God. The hallmark of kingship is in honouring and praising the Melek(King), honouring the King is more than unhappily obeying, but it is a joyous heartfelt choice or “Election“

*Romans 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.
*John 11:52 (Jesus died) for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.
*Mattew 24:31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
*2Peter 1:10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election.

This is really for your election, your freewill, your vote, carefully consider and cast your vote to Elect Jesus King!!! and be among the Elect of Jesus to be with him when he comes as King(Melek) of Kings and Lord of Lords!!!
